I have written twelve children’s book dummies, the layout with illustrations and then color samples. I have a formidable file folder full of “we loved this book but it’s not just right for our list,” letters. Twice a book has sold, and then been unsold , due to cosmic forces beyond the powers of my book alone. I think that if an editor fell in love with one of my books, there would be several that would be appealing. I love the writing part of picture books sometimes even more than the illustration and there are certain stories I would happily send off into the hands of another illustrator.
